Satellite imagery arrives when the satellite arrives and the sky cooperates. Flying the field puts the map in your hands on the day the decision has to be made.
NDVI and NDRE index maps at field resolution show individual problem areas rather than averaging them into a pixel. Emergence, stand establishment, drainage patterns, salinity and compaction all become visible.
Coverage runs at roughly one quarter section per hour, so multi thousand acre programs are planned as multi day work with flight timing set around crop stage.
Damage documentation after hail, wind or flooding produces a dated, georeferenced record for insurance that is considerably harder to dispute than ground photos.
